311 Service Requests from 2010 to Present Updates

December 23, 2025

You may have noticed that this dataset has gone from 40+ million rows to 0. Unfortunately, due to the size of the dataset and the more than 6,000 views built on top of it, the data is unavailable as we make this update. Every change we make has to be updated in each individual view as well.

We are in the process of publishing a temporary working version of the data at a new URL so that you can resume working with the data. Once it is live we will link to it on this page.

December 15, 2025

We are updating the 311 Service Requests from 2010 to Present dataset. As one of the largest and most-used datasets on Open Data, we are dedicated to keeping it useful and high-quality. While we make these changes, updates will pause for a few days.

Updating Current Column Labels

We will be updating the labels for two columns in the dataset:

  • Complaint Type will be updated to Problem
  • Descriptor will be updated to Problem Detail

This won’t affect API access, as the names on the backend will remain the same.

Adding New Columns to the Dataset

We will be adding three columns to the dataset that weren’t previously published:

  • Council District
  • Police Precinct
  • Additional Details

These new columns will provide additional context for 311 Service Requests.

Note: Additional Details is a subset of Problem and Problem Detail.

Splitting the Dataset

As of December 2025, this dataset is over 40 million rows. And it is only going to get larger! In order to make this data load faster and easier to work with, we are splitting it into two datasets:

  • 311 Service Requests from 2020 to Present: keeping the same web address
  • 311 Service Requests from 2010 to 2019: a new dataset of historical data

Going forward, we will keep each dataset limited to 10 years to prevent infinite growth.
